An A-League full of quality. (I predicted it in an interview years ago!)

The question put to me in an interview back in 2008 while I was playing for Sydney FC was:

Would you encourage more players from Britain to bring their boots Down Under?

“Yeah, definitely. Now the league’s picked up, it’s got a name for itself. People are taking notice of the A-League now. There are [Aussie] players coming back here from the Premier League. It’ll encourage a lot more of the boys. Once they’ve got everything in place it’s going to be quality.”

And quality it is indeed.

Last season we enjoyed watching foreign Marquee players  Heskey, Del Piero, Broich, Ono and Engelaar (the left footed giant that irritatingly pipped me to goal of the season) show us their class and experience on the pitch.

Our Australian players have also stepped up the standard, Taggart, Brilliante, Spiranovic, Franjic and Troisi among many other Australians that played brilliantly throughout last years campaign.

The A-League was great last year, but I’ve just looked at the teams rosters for this season, and it’s already shaping up to become the best one yet.

Damien Duff,

Matthieu Delpierre,

Alex Brosque,

Andy Keogh

These names are just a few of the star quality players that have signed to A- League teams for 2014/15, and there are whispers of even more famous names heading down under before the season starts,……..  meaning that we are in for a very exciting few weeks ahead.

The recent partnership of Melbourne City with Manchester City, ( currently training  at their facilities in Manchester) can only add to franchise possibilities for other A-League clubs. Which will in turn add to the attraction of playing A-League football, and entice further high calibre players to ‘bring their boots’ Down Under.

I for one, can’t wait for next season 2014/15 to kick off.

Just to wet the appetite, The Newcastle Jets membership tickets and new shirts for the upcoming season were released today. Here’s a sneaky peek……………..I would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. Simon Newlove says:

Now mate and great to here from you. Sure you’ve seen it but great to see my good mate and x golfing buddy Andy Keogh over there at Perth Glory. Even hits the ball further than you but a bit like yourself doesn’t know what direction it going. Sorry mate had to say that

  2. Michael says:

You are totally right mate, and Keogh certainly deserves to be up there on the list. I’ll add him now. And as for the golf, You and Andy maybe able to outdrive me at the minute, due to my snapped elbow, but in a few weeks, I’ll be flying again, and neither of you could come close! See you later, your mate Tiger.
